 Description:  The Illinois Secretary of States office adheres to the federally mandated fingerprinting and background check requirement for obtaining a Hazardous Materials Endorsement established by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).Commercial Drivers License (CDL) holders applying for or renewing a Hazardous Materials Endorsement must submit to a fingerprint background records check prior to issuance of the endorsement. If you are renewing after the expiration dateof the CDL, the Hazardous Materials Endorsement cannot be retained until the results of the background records check are received from the TSA. To renew a CDL with a Hazardous Materials Endorsement, please begin the process 30 days prior to the expiration date on the CDL.
